Christmas 2007
Pack rafting on the Able Tasman Enjoying the sunshine in Lees Creek off the Rainbow Valley and tramping on the Wankapeka Track to Wangapeka Saddle and Biggs Tops.

Ruahine Range
The Ruahine Range has a number of tracks and huts. We went to Sunrise Hut and to Howletts Hut during a week in the area in March 2007.

Lake Waikaremoana
The Lake Waikaremoana is a pleasant three to four day tramp around the shores of the lake - October 2007. View the Google Map of the route.

Rafting the Pyke River
Starting in Milford Sound we caught the plane into the Lower Hollyford valley. A short walk to Martins Bay hut then on round the coast the next day to Big Bay. From here we walked inland to join the Pyke River and started pack rafting down the Pyke. We crossed Lake Wilmot and carried on to the Olivine Hut for the night. Next day we rafted further down the river before crossing Lake Alabaster. We stayed the night at the Alabaster Hut then tramped out the Hollyford track for the last two days. - March 2008. View the Google Map of the route.

Dore Pass to Glade House
Dore Pass goes from the Eglinton Valley across to the head of Lake Te Anau. It is a trip we tried the year before but were turned back by fresh snow above the bushline. There are great views of the head of the Lake Te Anau. - March 2008.

Mistake Creek and U Pass
Mistake Creek in the Eglinton Valley leads to U Pass and down into Hut Creek. The climb up the Mistake Creek waterfall was rather interesting! - March 2008.

West Matukituki Valley
The West Matukituki is a picturesque valley with views of Mt Aspiring above and below bushline. We spent a couple of day in the valley climbing up to bushline and visiting the Rob Roy Glacier - March 2008.

Hooker Valley and Mueller Hut
A walk up the Hooker Valley and a climb up to Mueller Hut at Mt Cook during April 2008.

Otehake Wilderness Area
During Easter we tramped in the Otehake Wilderness Area The trip starts in the Edwards Valley and crosses over Taruahuna Pass, Falling Mountain and into the west branch of the Otehake River. This rugged area is a good test of map reading and track finding skills - April 2008. View the Google Map of the route.

Mount Holdsworth
This was a delightful day on Mount Holdsworth in the eastern Tararua Ranges. Fresh snow made for some great views and photos which were taken on my cell phone - August 2008. We repeated this trip on a lovely winters day in June 2009.

Adelaide Tarn
We made a return visit to the delightful Adelaide Tarn in Kahurangi National Park. Our route this time was via the Anatoki River and Yuletide Peak to the Tarn then out by Boulder Lake - February 2009.
